This Friday, I had an excellent lecture from Mr, Chris Ee. It was about search engine. I agree about every single word he spoke in class about search engine. Search engine is so important that every business person should pay attention to it. In almost every aspect of our lives we turn to technology, specifically search engines, to answer questions, find solution, and navigate the world in which we live. We search everything! Now let’s think about how we use search engines. Unlike other form of advertising, the information that appears in search engine after we’ve typed in a phrase is content we actually want to see.
In the past few years, a lot of marketers have been talking about the importance of content marketing. After a “persuasive thinking”, we may come up with good content. But, great content won’t get traction if nobody sees it. If content is a king, the distribution way must be a queen. All types of advertising try to put the right message in front of the right customer. Search engine stands alone in that it can put the ad in front of them at the right time. Because search users are actively looking for the information, they’re more likely to respond to the ad and engage with your brand. Nowadays, almost every company wants their products or service to become the first page on Google.
Sometimes, people may feel interrupted by TV ads or other form of advertising. Maybe a company will lose potential customers only because customers feel bothered by its ads. In China, the company Quan Jian Medical Corporation got a very bad reputation only because they have done too much TV direct sale advertisement. However, search engine advertising does not have this disadvantage. When I search a BMW, a “Consider a Mercedes-Benz® – MBUSA.com” will come in the first line. However, people may not feel uncomfortable to this form of ads. People may think these “competitive ads” give them an addition proposal.
As for the development of search market, I think mobile search can become the future trend. Nowadays, mobile searches currently represent 1 in 3 search queries. This number may steadily increase over the next few years.
